KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) — The Institute of Islamic Understanding, Malaysia (IKIM) will represent Malaysia at the early meetings of the working groups for Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Interfaith Dialogue to be held Monday and Tuesday in Budapest, Hungary.
IKIM Director-General Dr Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas said the Malaysian delegation led by him would attend the meetings at the Cyprus Embassy.
Mohd Roslan Mohd Saludin, a Fellow at the IKIM Centre for Syariah, Law and Political Science, would also be joining him, he said in a statement.
He said IKIM would participate in working group 1 meetings, attended by experts from ASEM partners, charged with putting forward a set of proposals for the incorporation of basic knowledge concerning world religions.
They would also work to draft an agreement on common ethical standards shared by the different faiths in national educational curricula, he said.
“The outcome of the meetings in Budapest will form the basis for the 3rd ASEM Interfaith Dialogue this year. China has offered to host it,” he added.
IKIM is the leading agency entrusted by the Prime Minister’s Department with issues pertaining to the interfaith dialogue.
It had actively participated in interfaith dialogues at national and international levels.
