KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) — The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) will hold an international conference to address issues concerning the Muslim world next month.
IKIM Director General Dr Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas said the two-day conference from July 17 on “The Role of Islamic States in a Globalised World” would be opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Prof Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu was expected to deliver a keynote address, he told Bernama.
He said the conference aimed to discuss specifically on the strategic modus operandi of revitalising the Muslim ummah in the global context, especially on the education system to harness human capital.
It would also deliberate on major areas including the economic and financial systems suitable for Islamic states, the management of global peace and conflicts, and the orientation of science within Islamic states, he said.
